Project 2025, a Far-Right Revolution, and More Trump Lies
Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts said, “We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”
He was referring to “Project 2025” – a conservative agenda for the first 180 days of the next Trump administration, should Trump manage to win in November.
The agenda, led by former Trump administration officials, calls for the sacking of thousands of civil servants, expanding the power of the president, dismantling the Department of Education, sweeping tax cuts, a ban on pornography, halting sales of the abortion pill, and a whole lot more. Items include:
- Placing the entire federal bureaucracy, including independent agencies such as the Department of Justice, under direct presidential control – a controversial idea known as “unitary executive theory”.
- Eliminating job protections for thousands of government employees, who could then be replaced by political appointees.
- Complete elimination of the Department of Education.
- Imposing greater restrictions on abortion access, including reversing federal approval of the abortion pill mifepristone.
- Banning pornography and imprisoning anyone who produces or distributes it.
- Having the federal government promote “biblically based, social science reinforced” heterosexual marriages.
- Eliminating a long list of terms from all laws and federal regulations, including “sexual orientation”, “gender equality”, “abortion” and “reproductive rights”.
- Reviving Trump’s plan to open most of the National Petroleum Reserve of Alaska to leasing and development.
Trump, meanwhile, contradicted himself by simultaneously claiming (1) not to know anything about it and at the same time (2) claiming to disagree with some items in it. He is panicking to dissociate from it. “I know nothing about Project 2025,” Trump posted on his social media website, Truth Social. “I have no idea who is behind it..”
That’s another Trump lie of course. The team that created the project is comprised of former Trump advisers, including director Paul Dans, who was chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management while Trump was president. Russell Vought, another former Trump administration official, wrote a key chapter in the document and also serves as the Republican National Committee’s 2024 platform policy director. Both Vought and RNC deputy policy director Ed Martin have notable connections to Project 2025.
It’s an important discussion unfolding in the final months of the 2024 election. We will keep an eye out for facts. Also, thanks for the feedback from some who responded and requested the name of this blog be reverted to Trump Fact Book. That’s done now. This change will help us keep our focus this important time on Trump, and the dangers he poses. See About Trump Fact Book for more about this site.
